“Cursed is the ground because of you; through painful toil you will eat of it all the days of your life.”

Nothing describes life on the earth quite like that one.  I find that verse oddly comforting.  It’s like, yes life is tough, yes you had to put this or that dream on hold, yes you’re in a daily grind, but you’re not the only one, and everything is as it should be right now.

That said, things get a lot easier when we have the right support.  Even when Adam was in the Garden, i.e. in paradise, God still said “it is not good for Adam to be alone.”  In fact, that loneliness was the first thing in all creation we ever see called ‘not good.’  Thinking about that lately makes me want to get to a point where I am spending more time with real friends and ditching the fake ones.  And I haven’t seriously dated in a couple of years.  That’s gotta change.  I need to quit thinking of reasons not to.  Most of all, I need to work at a place where I’m treated fairly.  If not for a few special people I probably couldn’t work here.  But another part of me thinks we shouldn’t have to lean on each other just to survive.

Anyways, that verse is from Genesis; it’s full of things like that.  It never goes into great detail but it explains the human condition so well.  It’s also full of symbolism and goes into the role of humans on the earth, and the nature of relationships.  Simple but elegant.
